Woman Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Fatal DUI Crash on Jacksonville's Westside

In Jacksonville, Florida, a woman who was involved in a fatal crash while driving under the influence in 2020 has pleaded guilty and received a five-year prison sentence. Ashley McLean has also been sentenced to five years of probation following her time in prison.

The incident occurred in August 2020 when McLean rear-ended a vehicle on Timuquana Road, leading to a four-vehicle pile-up. Tragically, a passenger in the car that McLean struck from behind, 58-year-old Thalia Ricketts-Stoner, later passed away at the hospital.

When the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) arrived at the scene, they found McLean still in her car. She told the trooper that she had no recollection of what had happened and exhibited signs of impairment, according to the FHP report.

McLean was subsequently taken to a hospital where she agreed to a blood test. However, she became confrontational and departed without receiving medical treatment, as reported by authorities. Her blood test revealed the presence of alprazolam, also known as Xanax, with a level described as "supratherapeutic" by a doctor. This term indicates a dosage exceeding the therapeutic concentration or maximum recommended dose for medical treatment.

McLean faced charges of DUI manslaughter and DUI with property damage. In the lead-up to her trial, which was scheduled for last month, she decided to plead guilty to vehicular homicide.
